Common Core Skills

This course is about communicating with children and working with others, such as social services.  There are six modules:

  • effective communication and engagement with children, young people and families
  • child and young person development
  • safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
  • supporting transitions
  • multi-agency working
  • sharing information.

The Common Core Skills & Knowledge is part of many recent childcare courses, such as the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator).  Common Core Skills is not a childcare qualification in itself but it meets the minimum requirement for Ofsted registration.  If you are looking for childcare training, the Early Years Educator course is the current course for early years workers and takes 1 to 2 years to complete. Some training providers will do workplace assessments for nannies, contact your local college for further information or training providers such as BabyEm, HATA, Maternity Nanny Training or Riverside Training Company.

Common Core Skills & Knowledge courses are held at various venues, mostly in London.  Distance Learning/Online is an option for those unable to attend a training day.   When looking at courses it is important to check that it is accredited by a recognised awarding body.  Typically this will be Open College Network (OCN), Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education (CACHE) or NCFE.

At NannyPaye we do not recommend any particular provider of training courses.  We are aware that the following offer Common Core Skills & Knowledge training which is aimed at nannies:

BabyEm – (London, Victoria.  Distance Learning) -
HATA (London, Victoria)-
MNT (online) -
NannyLink (various) -
Riverside Training (London) -
